EEMS Launches Campaign Partner Initiative

23rd January 2007 (Source: EEMS )

As part of their wider programme of activities, the Energy Efficient Motorsport Programme (EEMS) has launched their new EEMS Campaign Partner Initiative. Alan Mercer, the EEMS Programme Manager, says, “this is an excellent new initiative, which for the first time gives organisations within motorsport the opportunity to promote their commitment to the concept of energy efficiency in motorsport. By signing up to the charter, organisations will receive updates from EEMS, networking opportunities and will be able to promote their status as an EEMS Campaign Partner. This can only help in attracting investors and sponsors into the industry”.

Any organisation within UK motorsport can become an EEMS Campaign Partner, whether a race team, championship organiser, a supplier to the industry, a promoter or a race circuit owner. However, by signing the charter, they are making a commitment to:

  • Demonstrate active support for the development of energy efficient technologies;
  • Consider the energy and environmental implications of their motorsport activities and commit to reducing their environmental impact;
  • Embrace appropriate technical research, development and testing projects related to energy efficient technologies;
  • Encourage other organisations to collaborate with them in appropriate development projects;
  • Promote the Energy Efficient Motorsport message to relevant organisations they work with;
  • Communicate their energy efficient achievements to their motorsport audience to underline their pro-active stance.

Organisations interested in becoming an EEMS Campaign Partner, should contact EEMS by phoning 0 or emailing e.

NOTES FOR EDITORS:

Energy Efficient Motorsport Programme

EEMS, the Energy Efficient Motorsport Programme, is a Government initiative funded by Motorsport Development UK and delivered by Momenta (a brand of AEA Technology plc). The vision of the programme is to work with the UK motorsport industry to develop the use of sustainable technologies and fuels to put energy efficiency at the heart of modern motorsport. Its objectives are to:

  • Ensure that by 2010, EEMS is a major feature of UK motorsport and the concept has been exported to other countries;
  • Have at least one high profile UK championship running to energy flow based engine regulations;
  • Have automotive OEM’s world-wide working in partnership with UK motorsport companies on the EEMS concepts;
  • Have cars using different fuels and engine technologies racing competitively in the same championship within the UK;
  • Ensure that the UK motorsport industry will benefit from increased investment from OEM’s and fuel companies wishing to develop and demonstrate fuel efficient technology.

Motorsport Development UK

Motorsport Development UK is a public/private partnership established to implement a significant investment in UK motorsport. Funded directly by DTI and the four regional development agencies (AWM, EEDA, EMDA and SEEDA) where the UK motorsport cluster is concentrated, Motorsport Development UK's mission is to ensure UK motorsport is developing its full potential, winning business globally and making a valued contribution to other sectors of the UK economy and to society as a whole.

It does this by funding programmes that

  • Sustain and strengthen the existing UK motorsport industry and sport;
  • Develop and grow the capability of individuals and of the whole sector to embrace change and make the most of new opportunities;
  • Re-connect motorsport to other industry sectors and to society, leading to a transfer of knowledge and capability that brings mutual benefits.

The investment agenda is focused on five areas seen as key to a successful motorsport cluster in the UK:

  • UK & international business development and development of cross-sector motorsport technology transfer;
  • A Motorsport Academy to improve skills development and co-ordinate learning provision;
  • A Learning Grid of educational activities in schools, Further and Higher Education;
  • Energy Efficient Motorsport (EEMS) in the UK;
  • Widening Participation, encouraging more participants and volunteer officials to enter and stay involved in the sport.
