Pera flies the flag for British motorsport

The Leicestershire-based innovation company, Pera, announced today the award of a Government contract to support and develop the UK motorsports industry.
Chosen not only for its extensive programme management experience but also for its business development expertise, Pera was the winning contender to deliver the Motorsport Academy on behalf of Motorsport Development UK.
The UK remains a world leader in motorsport, enjoying a unique position serving Formula 1 and other international race series. The UK possesses an established wealth of world class design, coupled with engineering companies which can offer cutting-edge creativity to customers around the world.
The industry’s achievements are powered by a well-educated and flexible workforce. The Motorsport Academy will help motorsport businesses find and nurture this talent, representing the lifeblood of success. The Motorsport Academy is also able to equip companies with the market, technological and business insight to keep the industry competitive. Offering an enhanced capability to draw on the Business Intelligence Centre at Pera, the motorsport industry now has a dedicated resource through which companies can locate the best research partners, identify advances in technology and secure market information.

The Motorsport Academy acts as a bridge between students, individuals, educators and businesses. Through their knowledge of the industry they work to support those seeking to establish and develop their business or career and to ensure the UK maintains its leading position as the international centre of motorsport excellence.
The key objectives of the Motorsport Academy are to:
- Develop the skills, knowledge and expertise within the UK motorsport industry and therefore drive up productivity
- Improve employability, create a culture of innovation and encourage world leading performance
- Coordinate delivery of identified education and training needs of the UK motorsport industry through both new and existing provision, ensuring consistency and quality of provision
- Create a coherent focus for collaborative action by employers, academia and other training providers
- Enable schools, colleges, universities and other providers to develop, supply and promote innovative lifelong learning and development aligned to employer needs
- Ensure employers and individuals alike are readily able to identify and access high quality training resources and development opportunities
- Inform and consult with government and its agencies to ensure alignment with key policies and strategies
The Academy is supported by Motorsport Development UK, a partnership between public and private sector organisations to develop UK motorsport.
Funding for the programme comes directly from the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) and four regional development agencies (Advantage West Midlands, East of England Development Agency, East Midlands Development Agency and South East of England Development Agency). Other MDUK programmes include Energy-efficient Motorsport, which supports the adoption of green technologies in motorsport and the Learning Grid, a series of activities for schools that use motorsport to attract young people into engineering.
