Envirowise
Envirowise promotes the use of better environmental technologies and practices that reduce costs for UK industry, and is jointly funded by DTI and DETR. The broad themes are waste minimisation and cost effective cleaner technology, but it has also given special attention to foundries, metal finishing/surface engineering, volatile organic compounds, glass, paper and board, food and drink, printing industries, and speciality chemicals, and more recently engineering and ceramics industries.

Developed by the Energy Saving Trust, PowerShift (now known as TransportAction PowerShift) has been set up with the aim of 'kick-starting' the market for clean fuel vehicles (CFVs) in the UK. The PowerShift website includes a range of information on CFV's including details of funding available, newsletters, factsheets, case studies, workshops and events information, and links to CFV sites.

Regional Selective Assistance
Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) is a discretionary scheme aimed at attracting investment and creating/safeguarding jobs in the Assisted Areas.Grants of up to 15% of eligible project costs are made in order for a company to carry out an investment project within the Assisted Area. Qualifying projects are generally purchase of fixed assets, including opening of a new plant, modernising or adding new facilities to existing plants. Eligible costs can include: Plant and machinery; Some associated one-off costs such as patent rights and professional fees; Associated land, site preparation and buildings. The amount of grant awarded will depend on the area, the needs of the project, the number of jobs safeguarded or created, and the impact the project will have on the economy. Each application is individually assessed, and needs to be able to demonstrate that the project would not go ahead in the same form without the grant assistance.

The Rural Enterprise Valley project (Rev) is an exciting multi-million pound investment to establish the A11 corridor in and around Thetford, Norfolk, as the place to do business for companies involved in the advanced engineering and motorsport industries.

Vehicle Certification Agency
VCA is a DfT agency responsible for ensuring vehicles and vehicle parts have been designed and constructed to meet internationally agreed standards of safety and environmental protection (Type Approval). VCA also provides a Management System Certification service to the automotive industry. The web site gives information on all VCA's services including the New Car Fuel Consumption and Emissions Database and CO2 Database.
