EEMS Project Support

As part of its wider programme of activities, EEMS has a fund available to support technical projects or practical demonstrations of new technologies.

2008

The Energy Efficient Motorsport Programme (EEMS) is delighted to announce a call for projects to receive support as part of its wider programme of activities. Funding is available for selected projects and initiatives that have the potential to lead to significant energy efficiency improvements within motorsport.

As in previous years we will be looking for projects that align with the aims and objectives of the programme. EEMS is seeking projects that have the potential to further stimulate energy efficiency in motorsport. Each project has to have a degree of novelty, it cannot have been done before, it has to be bringing benefits to the motorsport industry in the UK and there has to be a reason why EEMS support is needed for the project to go ahead. Typically, £10,000 - £20,000 would be available for any specific project.

For 2008, the priorities for EEMS are:

  • Alternative powertrain applications across motorsport.
  • Use of hybrid technologies in competitive motorsport.
  • Fuel flow based regulation in competitive motorsport.
  • Alternative fuels in motorsport.

Organisations interested in applying for EEMS support should complete the short projects application form which is available as a pdf as well as a word document, and submit this, along with any other supporting information to .

The closing date for applications is Friday 1 February 2008. Applications will be assessed on their alignment with the aims and objectives of EEMS, the nature of the partnership involved, the capabilities of the organisations involved and their contribution and the likely impact in stimulating energy efficiency in motorsport. Evaluation, and notification of successful projects, will take place by the end of February 2008.

2007

The call for proposals in 2007 resulted in an interesting and exciting range of project proposals including submissions from UK teams in national and international racing and British rallying, development projects and opportunities to support a number of exciting new initiatives in alternative fuels and hybrid technology in a range of motorsport applications.

The projects selected for support were:

  • Barwell Motorsport. Competing with a Aston Martin DBRS9 running on bioethanol in British GT3 Championship 2007.
  • Flybird System LLP. Developing a high-speed flywheel based braking energy storage and recovery system.
  • Hyperion Motorsport. Running the Formula Woman Championship Caterham cars on bioethanol.
  • Jenkins Motorport. Running a biodiesel truck in the British Truck racing series in 2007.
  • Oak Technical Services. Further development of a hybrid rally car. Continuing to develop the Honda Insight and compete in the F1000 Stage rally championship in 2007 and begin work on the Honda Civic.
  • Team AFM Racing. Converting their diesel BTCC car to run on biodiesel.
