ECO Racing biodiesel LMP to debut in ALMS finale

15th October 2008

The Norfolk, UK based ECO Racing team's biodiesel-powered LMP1 prototype car is scheduled to make its competition debut at this coming weekend’s American Le Mans Series sportscar racing championship season finale at the Laguna Seca circuit in California.

The team was founded by race engineer Ian Dawson and is dedicated to developing, using and showcasing environmentally efficient technologies through elite, international motorsport. In 2004, Dawson raced the first modern generation diesel sports car at Le Mans, two years ahead of the debut of Audi’s R10 TDI diesel racer and three years ahead of Peugeot’s 908 HDi diesel.

The team’s Radical SR10 chassis is powered by an AER prepared production based V10 diesel engine which uses biodiesel fuel made from the seeds of the Jatropha curcas tree which is a drought-resistant inedible oilseed plant which makes use of otherwise unusable land and has no impact upon the food chain.
