2009 F1 French Grand Prix cancelled
17th October 2008
The board of directors of the FFSA, the governing body of French motorsport, have confirmed that the 2009 Formula One French Grand Prix will not take place.
The FFSA cites economic reasons for its decision to cancel the event which was scheduled to take place at the Magny Cours circuit near Nevers in June 2009.
A statement issued by the FFSA said, "For reasons related to the financial situation, the Federation Francaise du Sport Automobile (FFSA) has decided to cancel the Grand Prix of France.
"The FFSA would like to thank all customers who attended the Grand Prix of France and have supported this international event in recent years."
The cancellation of the French race and the recent dropping of the F1 Canadian Grand Prix means that the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship will be contested over 17 races.
