Corvette Racing commits to ALMS and Le Mans in 2008

19th December 2007

The American Corvette Racing team which competes in the American Le Mans series and the Le Mans 24 Hour race has confirmed that it will continue its racing programmes in 2008,

Although they were defeated in the 2007 Le Mans 24 Hour race by a factory backed Aston Martin DBR9, in all but two races in the 2007 ALMS Corvette Racing’s Chevrolet Corvette C6.R racecars were unopposed in the GT1 class and seem unlikely to be challenged on a regular basis in 2008.

GM Racing Road Racing Group manager Steve Wesoloski said, “Experience teaches us that motorsports is cyclical, and the GT1 category is currently in transition. Would we like to see more competition in GT1 in the American Le Mans Series? Absolutely! But in the absence of season-long competition, we are absolutely committed to controlling our own destiny. We are pushing hard to develop our chassis and powertrain, to refine our race strategy, and to continuously improve every element of the program. We know that the competition at Le Mans will be intense, and we will use the American Le Mans Series to hone the race cars, the drivers and the team to prepare for it.”
