US merger deal concluded
27th Febuary 2008
An agreement to merge the US based Champ Car World Series and Indy Racing League single seater racing championships has been signed by the principals of the organisations.
The agreement brings to an end a 13 year period in which the two championships competed with each other for teams, drivers, sponsorship funding and race dates.
Indy Racing League founder Tony George said, "I'm happy for open-wheel racing, its fans, sponsors and teams."
A press conference officially announcing the agreement was due to take place on Wednesday.
