MotoGP series to lose Turkish Grand Prix
27th April 2007
According to a report in the Turkish Zaman newspaper last Sunday’s Turkish Grand Prix round of the MotoGP motorcycle racing world championship is likely to have been the last to be held at the Istanbul Park circuit, the operating rights of which were recently acquired by Formula One impresario Bernie Ecclestone.
Zaman’s report says that the Turkish Motorcycling Federation will apply to the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) to cancel its contract for the MotoGP event on the grounds that is unable to continue funding the race.
Bekir Yunus Ucar, the head of the TMF, said, "There are about eight countries already lined up to take over from Turkey."
