Motorsport industry honours Sir Stirling Moss

Racing legend wins MIA's 'Outstanding Contribution to the UK Motorsport Industry' award

knighted in 1999 at the age of 70.

Sir Stirling Moss tonight (July 12) received the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) award for Most Outstanding Contribution to the UK Motorsport Industry. Voted for by members of the MIA, the award was presented by the Rt. Hon Peter Hain MP at the MIA's Summer Reception at the House of Lords. Previous winners include Tom Wheatcroft, Bernie Ecclestone, Harvey Postlethwaite, Dr Adrian Reynard, Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, Ken Tyrrell and David Richards.

The MIA's House of Lords Summer Reception has established itself as the most prestigious event in the international motorsport business calendar. In 2004 the event was officially supported by Rockingham Motor Speedway and its business partners - BMW, emda and Catalyst Corby. Over 300 guests attended, including Motorsport Valley business leaders, MPs, Peers of the Realm and VIPs from across the global motorsport sector.

Born in London on September 17, 1929, Sir Stirling Moss is one of the most versatile drivers in history, competing and winning in Formula One, Two and Three, hillclimbs, sports and touring car races, rallies and world speed record events. During his professional career, which started in 1949 and ended in a horrific crash at Goodwood in 1962, he drove 84 different types of automobiles in 495 events, finished in 366 of them, and won an amazing 222 times.

President of the MIA, Lord Astor of Hever DL, commented, "The MIA's annual House of Lords Summer Reception is motorsport's most prestigious networking occasion.
