Fiona Leggate in demand during Donington Park Touring Car Weekend

1st August 2006 (Source: EEMS )

Fiona Leggate, 25 year old Lincolnshire driver of the E85 bio-fuelled Thurlby Motors Boston Bowl Tech-Speed Astra was certainly in demand this weekend, despite the disappointment of missing all three races after her engine failed in Saturday qualifying. Her EEMS supported car was engine-less in the garage as the team did not have a spare to install.‘There was a slim chance of one, but it was in an Astra on show at The Motor Show and would not have given us enough time’.

.She was very busy signing autographs on Sunday morning in the paddock even before the pitlane walkabout queues of fans, where she was joined by a handsome chap in a tuxedo styling himself as James Bond 007 who turned up to be the ‘pitboy’ holding her number board on the grid. While this was happening, commentator Alan Hyde called in for an interview over the circuit public address system in front of the crowds. Later Fiona was interviewed by Motors TV live on the grid, and then recorded a feature for ITV to be shown in the previews for the Snetterton round in two weeks.

To round off the day, she presented the trophies on the podium for one of the support races. ‘It’s not easy to turn up at the circuit for raceday knowing you won’t be out on the track, we were so disappointed yesterday, but this has certainly kept me busy and it’s great to have all this support from the BTCC fans,’ she said.
