Loughborough, 04 May 2006 - Cenex, the new Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell vehicles, has appointed Robert Evans as Chief Executive Officer, Brendan Connor as Chairman and Graham Shemeld as Project Manager.
Robert Evans joins Cenex from Johnson Matthey, where he was Director, Public and Government Affairs for the Environmental Catalysts and Technologies Division. He is Chairman of the Steering Group of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and was formerly Chairman of the Transport Working Group of the Environmental Industries Commission.
Graham Shemeld joins Cenex from Cosworth Ltd, where he was Head of Procurement and formally Programme Manager for Formula One.
Robert Evans brings to Cenex a track record of market development for environmental technologies in the transport sector. Brendan Connor has considerable experience of working in the automotive industry, especially in bringing new technologies, which increase fuel efficiency, from product development to full production.
"The UK is in a prime position to meet the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Cenex provides a unique opportunity for organisations operating in the development of low carbon and fuel cell technologies to come together and, through influencing public and private sector procurement, ensure that a new generation of low carbon vehicles are produced."
Brendan Connor said:
"British engineering is still the best in the world but so often developments in low carbon and fuel cell technologies are fragmented and disconnected. Cenex gives industry a real opportunity for key players to come together, co-ordinate activities and demonstrate the world class capabilities that the UK offers the automotive sector."
