Cars To Star At Clean Racing Conference

16th October 2003 (Source: MIA )

Two revolutionary cars will provide a dramatic focal point at the Clean Racing Conference, being held at the ICC Birmingham on Wednesday, 22 October. This ground breaking conference, organised by the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA), will explore the role of motorsport in helping car manufacturers to produce more environmentally friendly vehicles – and the cars that will be on display provide graphic examples of the way ahead.

One of the cars, the Team Nasamax Reynard Cosworth LMP 900, made history in June 2003 when it became the first ever wholly renewably powered sports prototype to compete in the Le Mans 24-hour race. This 2.65-litre, V8 turbo-charged car uses bio-ethanol, an alcohol fuel distilled from grain. The fuel is 98 per cent pure ethanol, with the remaining two per cent comprised of de-naturing agents. These not only make the fuel impossible to drink, but also avoid any tax on alcohol!

The other car is a hybrid performance prototype, developed by MG in partnership with MIRA. Powered by a combination of petrol and electricity, this car will be unveiled for the very first time at the Conference.

Key speakers at the Conference include:

  • Ulrich Baretzky - Head of Engine Technology, Audi Sport
  • Brendan Connor - CEO and Managing Director, Cosworth Racing
  • Michael Copson - Technical Manager, Ferrari-Shell Racing Solutions
  • Herb Fishel - Executive Director, General Motors Racing, 1991-2003
  • John McNeil – Technical and Renewables Consultant, Team Nasamax
  • Rob Oldaker - Director, MG Sport & Racing

The Conference will be chaired by Chris Aylett, Chief Executive of the Motorsport Industry Association.
