EEMS announces a call for Project Support
29th January 2007 (Source: EEMS )
The Energy Efficient Motorsport Programme (EEMS) is delighted to announce a call for projects to receive support as part of its wider programme of activities. Support and even funding is available for projects and initiatives that have the potential to lead to significant efficiency and environmental improvements within motorsport.
EEMS is especially interested in projects that align with the EEMS objectives, which bring benefits to the motorsport industry in the UK and projects which are novel and which need EEMS support to go ahead. Typically, a maximum of £10K would be available for any specific project.
For EEMS, the priorities are to stimulate:
- The wider use of sustainable fuels in motorsport.
- Alternative powertrain development and application across motorsport.
Organisations interested in applying for EEMS support should email a summary of their idea to Alan Mercer at before 23 February 2007. Evaluation, and notification of successful projects, will take place before the end of March 2007.

- Have automotive OEM’s world-wide working in partnership with UK motorsport companies on the EEMS concepts;
- Have cars using different fuels and engine technologies racing competitively in the same championship within the UK;
- Ensure that the UK motorsport industry will benefit from increased investment from OEM’s and fuel companies wishing to develop and demonstrate fuel efficient technology.
Motorsport Development UK
Motorsport Development UK is a public/private partnership established to implement a significant investment in UK motorsport. Funded directly by DTI and the four regional development agencies (AWM, EEDA, EMDA and SEEDA) where the UK motorsport cluster is concentrated, Motorsport Development UK's mission is to ensure UK motorsport is developing its full potential, winning business globally and making a valued contribution to other sectors of the UK economy and to society as a whole.
It does this by funding programmes that
- Sustain and strengthen the existing UK motorsport industry and sport;
- Develop and grow the capability of individuals and of the whole sector to embrace change and make the most of new opportunities;
- Re-connect motorsport to other industry sectors and to society, leading to a transfer of knowledge and capability that brings mutual benefits.
The investment agenda is focused on five areas seen as key to a successful motorsport cluster in the UK:
- UK & international business development and development of cross-sector motorsport technology transfer;
- A Motorsport Academy to improve skills development and co-ordinate learning provision;
- A Learning Grid of educational activities in schools, Further and Higher Education;
- Energy Efficient Motorsport (EEMS) in the UK;
- Widening Participation, encouraging more participants and volunteer officials to enter and stay involved in the sport.
