Summary

This is No. 7 in a series of research papers published for the National Skills Taskforce. The author has done an excellent job of distilling a mass of information from DfEE, EMTA and EEF surveys and academic sources into a highly readable analysis of the supply and demand for engineers and engineering skills (a word of warning - few other reports in the series are as accessible or well-written as this!). The report looks at the provision of graduates, technician engineers and craftsmen and the effects of technological change, student expectations and funding structures on the quality and quantity of recruits to the industry. In short, the report is essential reading for anyone interested in this area.
