The FCO is the British Government Department responsible for overseas relations and foreign affairs

The Treasury is the department responsible for formulating and putting into effect the UK Government's financial and economic policy. The Treasury's overall aim is to promote sustained growth and higher living standards.

Innovation
DTI Innovation Unit manage a website called 'Innovate Now'. This site includes information on subjects such as financing innovation, innovation with the knowledge base, partnerships between business and schools and best practice in innovation.

Learning and Skills Council (LSC)
The Learning and Skills Council is responsible for funding and planning education and training for over 16-year-olds in England. The Council operates through 47 local offices and a national office in Coventry.

The OFT protects and promotes the interests of consumers and encourages competition. The OFT web site includes a information on the purchase, servicing and repair of cars including what to look out for when when buying a used car.

OST International
The Office of Science and Technology's International Directorate plans, develops and manages UK involvement in the European Union's science and technology activities. To develop and strengthen such links with major scientific partners across the world, the directorate's main activity is to oversee the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5).

Regional Selective Assistance
Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) is a discretionary scheme aimed at attracting investment and creating/safeguarding jobs in the Assisted Areas.Grants of up to 15% of eligible project costs are made in order for a company to carry out an investment project within the Assisted Area. Qualifying projects are generally purchase of fixed assets, including opening of a new plant, modernising or adding new facilities to existing plants. Eligible costs can include: Plant and machinery; Some associated one-off costs such as patent rights and professional fees; Associated land, site preparation and buildings. The amount of grant awarded will depend on the area, the needs of the project, the number of jobs safeguarded or created, and the impact the project will have on the economy. Each application is individually assessed, and needs to be able to demonstrate that the project would not go ahead in the same form without the grant assistance.
